"Let It Be Me" was originally a French song. A version with English lyrics was introduced by Jill Corey, when she performed it on the TV series Climax! In 1957, Corey released her version, with orchestration by Jimmy Carroll, as a single and met with modest success. In 1960 the Everly Brothers released their own remake and the single became a huge success. The lush string arrangement on the record was testament to the changing face of popular music, a fact that Buddy Holly had also foreseen during his final studio recordings in late 1958, using string arrangements on True Love Ways, It doesnt Matter Anymore and Raining In My Heart. The Everlys continued to have huge Success, especially in Britain where their popularity would not wane until the late sixties.

Let It Be Me (Everly Brothers)

I bless the day I found you.
I want to stay around you.
And so I beg you.
Let it be me.
Don't take this heaven from one.
If you must cling to someone,
now and forever,
let it be me.
Each time we meet, love,
I find complete love.
Without your sweet love,
what would life be?
So never leave me lonely;
tell me you love me only,
and that you'll always
let it be me.
Each time we meet, love,
I find complete love.
Without your sweet love,
what would life be?
So never leave me lonely;
tell me you love me only,
and that you'll always
let it be me.
